ACC Working Towards Covering Birth Injuries

ACC Birthing Injuries Perineal Tear

Last week I was interviewed by ACC who are currently conducting research on women who experienced a third or fourth degree perineal tear within the last 5 years.  The interviewers were lovely and very respectful. They asked great questions and had a very genuine intent of learning as much as they could about what life is like after sustaining a tear to that degree.  This is thanks to the 37,000 kiwis who signed the petition organised by Green MP Jan Logie pushing for ACC to cover childbirth injuries.  I’m really thankful this is under way and hopefully, moving forward women will get the support and recovery they deserve after experiencing a traumatic injury through no fault of their own.

I sustained a 3b tear in 2018 and my recovery is still ongoing. Although I have complaints about aspects of my recovery and what was available to me, I’m thankful I’ve had two amazing pelvic floor physiotherapists to work with.  Like miscarriage, childbirth injuries are another topic we don’t talk about a lot but is a real life struggle for many women.

For the month of April there will be 10% off all birthing and postnatal care packages, perfect for any mum to be or new mum. Show someone some aroha with a gift box of artisan products handcrafted from small businesses around Aotearoa.  Offer ends 30th April.
